African Improv Logs

– Kena Tangi Dorsey, Teacher

Time: 10 am to 4 pm

Place: Southwest Arts Center

Fee: $80.00

The African Improv Workshop taught by Kena Tangi Dorsey is the perfect introduction to African wax print fabrics and to quilters who love the vibrant colors and large-scale prints of these beautifully designed fabrics, but are not quite sure how to use them in quilt projects.  Using an improv, strip piecing method, students will create a crazy-pieced center block and then build larger strips around it to make wonky log cabin blocks.  You will learn my technique for this modern technique while getting over your fear of cutting into African wax prints.  This is more of a technique-based workshop, but once you have your stash of African fabrics in hand, and the basic principles of this method, you will walk away with a completed block and with the skills to create a table runner, wall hanging or full-sized quilt project.   Optional kits available for $47 payable to Kena Dorsey or you can work from your stash. Continental breakfast and lunch included in the ticket price. Sewing machine required.

(Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced Quilters)
