Silk Painting 101 – Amber Bond, Instructor

 

Time: 10 am to 4 pm

Place: Southwest Arts Center

Fee: $65.00

 

Discover the beauty of painting on silk , and add luminous color and expressive design to your quilts in this introductory silk painting class. Designed with quilters and fiber artists in mind, this course explores the unique qualities of painting on silk fabric, including paint application, color blending, and silk resist techniques. Students will create a one‑of‑a‑kind 18" × 18" painted silk

block, perfect for use as a quilt focal piece, wall hanging, or accent in future sewing projects. Students will also create a hand-painted silk greeting card. All materials are provided in a supply kit by the instructor.

 

Supply Kits Include the following items:

1. Silk Habotai fabric, with pre-printed gutta resist design (18X18 block and 5x7 practice cards) and lined

with freezer paper

2. 5x7 frame cards and envelopes

3. Paint palette

4. Paint brush

5. Silk paints

6. Synthrapol

7. Written instruction booklet

8. Disposable gloves

Silk Supply Kits Costs - $25 per kit

 

Additional Notes

-No prep work is required by students before attending the class.

-Students should bring an apron or wear clothing that is suitable for dyeing fabric.
