BEGINNING
HAND APPLIQUE

August 1, 2026

Beginning Hand Appliqué– Melinda Rushing, Teacher

Time: 10 am to 1 pm

Place: Southwest Arts Center

Fee: $40.00

This class will teach you an easy method using interfacing as a foundation for turned edge hand appliqué.  We’ll redraw our applique to make it easier to turn edges and sew.  We will create a New Orleans Fleur de Lis appliqué.  A fleur de Lis has everything that can be difficult: convex and concave, sharp points and overlapping parts.

Supply list of items not in the kit.

• Two 8” x 8” pieces of quality quilting cotton - one for back ground, other for appliqué.

• A few applique pins, or regular straight pins

• Needle and cotton thread that matches the color of your appliqué fabric.  I personally like very fine short needles, but bring whatever you are comfortable with.

• Thimble, if you use one

• Small sharp scissors (we’ll only be cutting fabric and interfacing.)

• Small mat to use in applying glue to keep tables clean – such as a small cutting mat.  Or anything to keep the glue off the furniture.

• Paper and pen/pencil if you are a note taker.

Kit includes: Pay the teacher on the day of class. $3.00.

• Pellon 910 sew-in featherweight interfacing

• Washable white glue stick

• Washable fine point marker

Continental breakfast and lunch is included in your class fee.
