Marquetta Bell Johnson out did herself with the amount of time and love she put in her 12 inch quilt named “Purple Power.”
“Purple Power” is totally made with Marquetta’s hand dyes and hand prints. She lovingly quilted the quilt by hand in a big stitch and then embellished it with beads and a cowrie shell that are also attached by hand. The colors are purple, teal and blue with gold metallic.
The back of the quilt is one of her purple hand dyes. Marquetta signed it on the back. She also attached two rings at the top to make hanging easier.
This art quilt was created and donated to the Atlanta Quilt Festival by African American quilter Marquetta Bell Johnson who lives in Stone Mountain, GA. Visit the Atlanta Quilt Festival each August to see more of her quilts and to buy her hand dyes. Follow her on Instagram at @marquettabquilting.
