\\JURIED EXHIBIT

The juried exhibit will be on exhibit from August 1, 2018 until August 28, 2018 at South Fulton Arts Center. The exhibit is free and open to the public M-S from 10 a..m.-4p.m. 

 

\\CALL FOR ENTRY

If you are interested in entering a quilt, here are the guidelines: 

CALL FOR ENTRY! The Atlanta Quilt Festival seeks quilts of all genres and techniques for its juried exhibit which will be held at the South Fulton Arts Center, 4645 Butner Road, College Park, GA 8/1/19-8/31/19. Quilts must NOT be larger than 60 inches, must have a hanging sleeve, a label and must be available for display July 20, 2019 - September 1, 2019. Cash prizes and ribbons will awarded for Best Art Quilt, Best Traditional Quilt, Best Modern Quilt and Best Interpretation of the African American heritage during Opening Reception 8/4/189. Best of Show will be announced after all votes are counted at the conclusion of the exhibit.

TO ENTER: In a separate email for each entry, include a description of each quilt and 2 pictures, a full view and a closeup. Email your entry to AtlantaQuiltFestival@gmail.com. DEADLINE July 1, 2019. $10.00 for each entry. Pay through PAYPAL to  AtlantaQuiltFestival@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing your beautiful quilts.

 

 

\\OPENING RECEPTION

The Opening Reception will be held August 4, 2018 from noon - 4 p.m. at South Fulton Arts Center, 4645 Butner Road, College Park, GA. Winners announced. Shop at the Quilt Market and view the doll exhibit. Refreshments served. Free and open to the public.

 

\\SPECIAL DOLL EXHIBIT

A Special Doll Exhibit of Elizabeth Small dolls will be on display during the OPENING RECEPTION at South Fulton Arts Center, 4645 Butner Road, College Park, GA 30349. The dolls are offered for sale. Free and open to the public.

\\SPECIAL AFRICAN APPLIQUÉ EXHIBIT

"Let the Silhouettes Move", a special exhibit of appliqué Quilts will be on display August 1 -28, 2019 at South Fulton Arts Center, 4645  Butner Road, College Park, GA 30349. The exhibit is free and open to the public M-S from 10 a..m.-4p.m. These quilts were started in the 2018 Master Quilter Workshop led by Wendy Mamattah.

\\QUILT MARKET

Shop for unique hand crafted items during the Opening Reception August 4th from noon - 4 p.m. at South Fulton Arts Center, 4645 Butner Road, College Park, GA.

\\MASTER QUILTER WORKSHOP

The featured Master Quilter will be Wycliff Linc Bennett. The Master Quilter Workshop will be held from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. August 9, 2019 at Aviation Community Cultural Center, 3900 Aviation Circle, Atlanta, GA 30336 OR August 10, 2019 at South Fulton Arts Center, 4645 Butner Road, College Park, GA. Choose one date. $60. Register at Eventbrite.

Details of the class:

Linc will demonstrate how he creates fabric collages, while coaching each student to create their own. In addition to the usual collage approach in quilt making, you will be guided through the process of making elements, appear three dimensional. You will begin your collage with a detail sketch based on a photo on muslin. Appropriate fabrics will be selected, cut to fit the drawing. Color, design and texture are of paramount in this workshop.

 

This is a great workshop for those participants who are interested in developing skills in fabric art collage. You will not be disappointed!

 

Supply List:

7 pieces of fabric enough to cover 36” x 36”

2 pairs of scissors (min of 5” and small cuticle size)

All other supplies will be provided by instructor

  • You may want to bring your basic quilting supplies

\\COLLAGE ANCESTRAL JOURNAL CLASS

The Collage Quilting Class will be held August 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at South Fulton Arts Center, 4645 Butner Road, College Park, GA.$55 fee includes materials but you may want to bring personal memorabilia to include in your journal. Sewing machine required. Registration required as space is limited. Email atlantaquiltfestival@gmail.com for more information. Class taught by Latifah Shakir. 

\\TRUNK SHOW

Marquetta Bell Johnson, a Master Quilter will share her quilts Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Aviation Community Cultural Center, 3900 Aviation Circle, Atlanta, GA 30336. $5 in advance to reserve your spot. CANCELLED! \\AFROCENTRIC QUILTED HOSTESS GIFTS CLASS

The Afrocentric Quilted Hostess Gifts Class will be held August 24, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Hammonds House Museum, 503 Peeples Street Atlanta, GA 30310. Make a quilted coaster and a Christmas ornament out of African fabrics. $15 fee includes fabric. Sewing machine furnished by the instructor.  Registration required as space is limited. \\BEGINNING QUILTING

The Beginning Quilting Class will be held August 24, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Hammonds House Museum, 503 Peeples Street Atlanta, GA 30310. $15 fee includes a kit. \\HOW TO PUBLISH YOUR BOOK CLASS

TheHow To Publish Your Book Class will be held August 24, 2019 from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at Hammonds House Museum, 503 Peeples Street Atlanta, GA 30310. Learn how to get your manuscript published on Amazon/com. $35. Registration required as space is limited. Email atlantaquiltfestival@gmail.com for more information. Class taught by Aisha Lumumba who has self-published several books including a novel, recipe books and quilt books. View the current exhibit at Hammonds House for free before or after class.
